Join me in re-electing Elizabeth May in Saanich-Gulf Islands!
On October 19th, I am voting for Elizabeth May in Saanich-Gulf Islands!
In 2009, people warned me about supporting Elizabeth. At that time she was seen as an outlier.
But, only few minutes after I met her in my sister’s living room, I knew that Elizabeth should occupy the seat that represents W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich-Gulf Islands) in the House of Commons.
Elizabeth wasn’t pandering to us for our support and she didn’t tell us what she thought we wanted to hear. Elizabeth was open, accepting and genuine, and I knew immediately that what she says, is what she believes.
Elizabeth May is an impressive Member of Parliament.
I remember before the 2011 election I was often asked “what can one MP really do anyway?”
As one MP, Elizabeth has had astonishing success and in her first term and she established herself as Canada’s most effective Member of Parliament. Her Green Party caucus has grown from one to three seats since 2011. The first Green Private Members Bill, her Lyme Disease legislation, passed unanimously. Elizabeth was the first to draw our attention to Bill C-51 and the Canada/China investor agreement (FIPA) and her hundreds of amendments to the Conservatives omnibus budget Bills slowed the Harper government’s destructive legislative agenda.
By keeping the Centre for Plant Health in North Saanich and securing funding for Ocean Net and community projects supporting libraries and recreation facilities, Elizabeth has successfully protected and enhanced jobs in Saanich-Gulf Islands. In addition, Elizabeth has been an incredible constituency MP working hard to help her constituents overcome bureaucratic obstacles for businesses and individuals in Saanich-Gulf Islands.
Elizabeth’s colleagues and the media have recognized her strengths. As a result Elizabeth was awarded the Maclean’s Magazine Parliamentarian of the Year (2012), Hardest Working MP (2013) and Orator of the Year (2014).
Elizabeth May is good for democracy.
In 2011, Elizabeth unseated a Conservative Cabinet Minister, she did not “split the vote” like so many threatened. Elizabeth was the vote! Seventy-five percent of voters cast a ballot in Saanich-Gulf Islands, just three points off the highest turnout in the country.
Elizabeth’s presence in the 2011 campaign encouraged people to re-engage democracy, to become excited about the possibility. Her hopeful vision for the future, for her and our grandchildren is inspiring, and in a time of such negative politics, it is clear to me that we need more Elizabeth May in Ottawa.
Elizabeth is by far the most qualified candidate to represent Saanich-Gulf Islands. She is committed to working with an NDP or Liberal government and to holding them accountable as she has held Stephen Harper’s Conservative government accountable.
We need MP’s that have the courage of Elizabeth to speak truth to power no matter what political stripe has the honour of leading our country for the next four years.
On October 19th, please re-elect Elizabeth May in Saanich-Gulf Islands.
